Research interests
Currently, my research focuses primarily on understanding the temporal structure of pain through behavioral assessment of chronic pain patients. The temporal structure of these signals is important because the human brain has evolved the exceptional ability to extract regularities from streams of auto-correlated sensory signals, a process called statistical learning. The research aims to investigate whether statistical learning of fluctuating values is disrupted in chronic back pain and its relationship with endogenous pain regulation. The research questions that I aim to answer include the effect of chronic pain on statistical learning, the impact of learning statistics of pain on daily activity and pain fluctuations, and the possibility of continuously recording online the pain fluctuations longitudinally.
