Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics

Positions exist for two Post Doctoral Research Associates in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics to work on the BloodCounts! project, starting on 1 January 2022 or by negotiation. The BloodCounts! project is supported by funding from The Trinity Challenge, The University of Cambridge, University College Hospitals Biomedical Research Centre, and the NIHR BioResource and aims to collect full blood count (FBC) data globally and utilise it to build machine learning based tsunami-like early warning systems by detecting anomalies in the FBC data.

The post holders will have a key role in a team of postdoctoral scientists, research support staff and students in the Department of Haematology, the MRC Biostatistics Unit and the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics. Internationally, they will have the opportunity to work with a diverse team of bioinformaticians, software developers, academic haematologists, statisticians and experts in machine learning and artificial intelligence from the world leading institutions, in eleven countries, which compose the BloodCounts! team.
