EPSRC ICASE Studentship - Manufacturing Data Capture, Data Analysis and AI to Support Digital Twin Roll-Out

Closing date:
Tuesday, 15 March 2022

Department of Engineering

The studentship aim is to investigate the data capture, data analysis and AI systems Siemens Energy require to support their development of product based digital twins for use in their gas turbine manufacturing, assembly, and certification activities. By development of the digital twins, Siemens Energy is looking to gain a deeper understanding of its manufacturing and assembly processes.

Through a deeper understanding of its processes Siemens Energy want to increase product quality and consistency and hence the productivity and sustainability of its operations. Using the Digital Twins to facilitate better data driven decisions on the acceptability of part dimensional conformance and on part performance during the manufacture, assembly and test of its gas turbines, Siemens Energy will reduce lost time, reduce the number of parts needing to be rejected or reworked and avoid failed certification tests.
