Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (Cambridge Centre for Data-Driven Discovery and Centre for Integrative Neuroscience Discovery)

The Cambridge Centre for Data-Driven Discovery (C2D3) and the Centre for Integrative Neuroscience Discovery (CIND) are seeking to appoint a dynamic and highly communicative Research and Engagement Coordinator to build and maintain effective relationships with partners in the academic community and industry. This is a shared role between the two research centres, with synergies in the areas of computation, data science and AI research. You will be based at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, on the Centre for Mathematical Sciences site.

The centres and the activities of the role

CIND focuses on cross-disciplinary research at the intersections of neurocognition, neurocomputation and neurotechnology. CIND interfaces between neuroscience, biological sciences, computer science, engineering and the AI and data science community at the University of Cambridge to enable collaborations that have strong translational potential in the development of AI systems, neurotechnology solutions and clinical applications. The Research and Engagement Coordinator manages day-to-day operations, working with the Steering and Executive Committees to deliver CIND's mission to promote interdisciplinary collaboration in integrative neuroscience discovery across the University, other national/international institutions, and industry partners. In addition, the role is to organise, manage and deliver the activities of CIND at the University of Cambridge and capitalise on its expertise in neuroscience and AI. The Research and Engagement Coordinator is expected to continue the development of CIND by fostering new relationships and research opportunities across the University, other national and international neuroscience research initiatives, and industry partners. The Research and Engagement Coordinator will develop cross-cutting projects and opportunities for networking, collaboration and training.

C2D3 is one of a select group of Interdisciplinary Research Centres at the University. C2D3 provides overarching data science and AI organisation to support a virtual community. The University's portfolio of AI and data science research is rapidly expanding, with an increasing role for C2D3 to play. The role will foster new relationships including with academics, industry and external organisations. With guidance from the Steering Committee, the role will create and run an industry club to help organisations access the University (e.g., student internships, PhD studentships, research projects, training etc.).

In addition, the purpose of the role is to grow C2D3's community by communicating the University's research excellence, particularly activities enabled by C2D3, and work to cement its position as the University's AI and data science IRC. The Research and Engagement Coordinator will expand C2D3's community, particularly in the arts, humanities and social sciences, increase awareness of C2D3 and its activities, and support existing and new collaborations between academics.

The role holder

We are seeking an individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and has excellent organisation, attention to detail, and relationship management skills. You will also enjoy negotiating and persuading in order to work effectively with individuals, groups, and external organisations, particularly with senior leaders. There are plenty of opportunities for the role holder to be creative with their own ideas in order to achieve the activities of both programmes.
