Research Assistant in Computational and Theoretical Neuroscience (Fixed Term)
Department of Engineering, Central Cambridge, Cambridge
We are seeking a creative and motivated Research Assistant to join Dr Timothy O'Leary's research group in the Department of Engineering. This involves exciting collaborative work with experimental laboratories around the world (including Harvard Medical School, HHMI Janelia and the Weizmann Institute of Science). A range of projects is available, covering themes of neural representations of behaviour, neuromodulation and regulatory control in the nervous system. We especially encourage applications from minorities and underrepresented groups.
The project combines ideas and methods from control, AI and neuroscience to understand how biological nervous systems develop and maintain behaviour. The role involves developing mathematical models, simulations and analysing data to understand neural circuits. The successful applicant will be expected to attend local seminars/events, journal clubs, and other group-related activities and publish research in journals and conferences.
The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
The successful applicant will have a Bachelors and/or Masters degree in neuroscience, physics/engineering, applied mathematics or a related subject and experience of project work in their field. They will also have excellent mathematical and programming skills (eg Matlab, Python, C++) and excellent communication and organisational skills.
