Research Assistant/Associate in Trustworthy Machine Learning (Fixed Term)
Department of Engineering, Central Cambridge, Cambridge
We are seeking a highly creative and motivated Research Assistant/Associate to join the Machine Learning Group in the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge. The position will be part of a research programme on Trustworthy Machine Learning, working with Dr Adrian Weller, other members of the ML group (http://mlg.eng.cam.ac.uk/), and collaborators both within and outside the University.
The goal of the programme is to develop new fundamental theory and methods to enable Machine Learning systems to be deployed in a trustworthy way, with a focus on technical approaches to advance fairness, interpretability and robustness. There is specific attention on applications in criminal justice and healthcare - both domains with urgent needs, high stake decisions and clear goals. Leading partners in each domain will ensure that we understand stakeholder requirements and facilitate impact. The programme is funded by EPSRC as a Turing AI Acceleration Fellowship. This is an exciting opportunity to develop strong technical foundations while engaging with real-world practitioners, broader stakeholders and policy makers.
Key responsibilities and duties include contributing to projects of technical research in fairness, interpretability and/or robustness, looking at specific applications in criminal justice (preferred) or healthcare; communicating effectively and coordinating with partners. Additional responsibilities include planning and organising research resources and workshops.
