Research Associate (Fixed Term)
Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral research associate to join the group of Professor Matthew Gaunt at the Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge to work on project aimed at exploring state-of-the-art synthetic organic chemistry using high throughput experimentation platforms. The role will involve the design and application of standardized high throughput synthetic methods to identify ways to affect a range of strategically important transformations. The data accrued from the high throughput synthesis will be combined with computational studies towards the development of machine learning methods to predict how to successfully perform transformations on these small molecules. The successful candidate will be expected to perform state-of-the-art synthetic chemistry using high throughput experimental and analytical platforms.
The project will also be closely aligned with a new centre in the Chemistry Department called the Innovation Centre in Digital Molecular Technologies (iDMT) and the successful candidate will be based within the newly refurbished labs of the iDMT centre and the Gaunt group laboratories. In addition to the goals of the research project, the outputs will also help support the aims of the iDMT, which has been established with funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the University of Cambridge, and includes AstraZeneca and Shionogi as delivery partners.
The successful candidate will have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry. They will be highly motivated and able to work as part of a collaborative team. Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills are required to ensure success in liaising with a large and diverse research team. Previous experience with state-of-the-art synthetic chemistry or high throughput experimentation is desirable.
