MRC Biostatistics Unit

The MRC Biostatistics Unit is one of Europe's leading biostatistics research institutions. Our focus is to deliver new analytical and computational strategies based on sound statistical principles for the challenging tasks facing biomedicine and public health.

We are seeking applications for a motivated and talented biostatistician or data scientist to join the research group led by Dr Jessica Barrett, with a focus on multi-outcome modelling and prediction modelling. Examples of current and planned future work include: (1) extensions of mixed effects models to allow for the modelling of within-individual variability; (2) methods to account for informative observation in large-scale electronic health data; (3) development of landmarking and joint modelling methods for dynamic risk prediction; (4) joint multistate modelling for multimorbidity; (5) developing a decision-theoretic approach to risk factor measurement.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on the development of novel statistical methodology applied to substantive clinical questions. A PhD in statistics (or equivalent experience) and knowledge of longitudinal data analysis and survival analysis is essential for this role. Knowledge of joint modelling of longitudinal and survival data and/or landmarking for dynamic risk prediction would be desirable. The successful candidate will also demonstrate previous experience of statistical methods development and a creative approach to problem-solving. Good statistical programming skills are required, as is a commitment towards open and reproducible science. The successful applicant will be supported in their career development with a range of courses and on-the-job training.
