Senior Research Associate in Trustworthy Machine Learning (Fixed Term)

We are seeking a highly creative and motivated Senior Research Associate to join the Machine Learning Group in the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge, UK. The position will be part of a research programme on Trustworthy Machine Learning, working with Dr Adrian Weller, other members of the ML group (http://mlg.eng.cam.ac.uk/), and collaborators both within and outside the University including: Computer Science and Technology, Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence, Bennett Institute for Public Policy, ELLIS fellows, MIT, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, and many more.
The goal of the programme is to develop new fundamental theory and methods to enable Machine Learning systems to be deployed in a trustworthy way, with a focus on technical approaches to advance fairness, interpretability and robustness. There is specific attention on applications in criminal justice and healthcare - both domains with urgent needs, high stake decisions and clear goals. Leading partners in each domain will ensure that we understand stakeholder requirements and facilitate impact. The programme is funded by EPSRC as a Turing AI Acceleration Fellowship.
Key responsibilities and duties include leading projects of technical research in fairness, interpretability and/or robustness, looking at specific applications in healthcare (preferred) or criminal justice; communicating effectively and coordinating with partners.
Additional responsibilities include planning and organising research resources and workshops.
