In this talk the HEPData project will be introduced, which is the central long-term data preservation facility for data from collider-based experiments in particle physics. The talk will introduce some of the challenges in providing such a service and emphasize the changes in the different roles of users and the actual service providers since HEPDatas inception about 30 years ago. Some strategies and ideas for extended data content and services will also be discussed.
