Research Assistant/Associate: Automating Representation Choice for AI Tools (Fixed Term)

Closing date:
Wednesday, 18 May 2022

Department of Computer Science and Tehnology

The University of Cambridge is looking to appoint an enthusiastic researcher/developer to join the project concerned with exploring and computationally modelling how people choose and use representations for problems that they are solving. This EPSRC funded project is entitled "Automating Representation Choice for AI Tools" and is lead by Prof Mateja Jamnik. It runs jointly with Prof Peter Cheng at the University of Sussex.

The project's goal is to develop an AI system that will select representations for problem solving that are suited to individuals and to target problem domains. To demonstrate the capability of this novel technology the project is building a tutoring system that will tailor its choice of representation to individual students. Key components of the system include (a) a tool to capture rich models of representational systems from human tutors and (b) a tool to assess students' competence with different representations by recording and analysing their drawing and writing behaviours.
