Research Assistant in Inverse Problems and Deep Learning (Fixed Term)

Closing date:
Wednesday, 28 September 2022

Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics

A position exists for a Research Associate to work on the development of image reconstruction and image analysis methods for a novel end-to-end pipeline for cancer imaging diagnosis and treatment planning. This position is funded by the Wellcome Trust project All in one cancer imaging optimisation using an integrated mathematical and deep learning approach.

This is a collaborative project between mathematicians in Cambridge and the Alan Turing Institute, medical researchers and clinicians from Addenbrookes hospital and Siemens. The role of this position will be to design and implement novel, cutting-edge image reconstruction and image analysis methods for Computed Tomography, to develop an end-to-end pipeline for cancer imaging diagnosis and treatment planning. This is an exceptional opportunity to conduct ambitious research whilst collaborating with an international and interdisciplinary team for designing novel developments in machine learning and inverse problems for cancer imaging.

The successful candidate will be part of the Cambridge Image Analysis (CIA) Group. For more information see http://www.damtp.cam.ac.uk/research/cia/ . We are looking for an excellent and ambitious researcher who want to join this research endeavour. The successful candidate will have:

*An MSc degree in mathematics or a in a relevant discipline

*Experience in one or more of the following: inverse imaging problems, variational reconstruction approaches, deep learning and (bio-) medical imaging

*Substantial experience in programming languages e.g. Python, C, R and/or MATLAB

*Strong communication skills, team player and organisation skills

There are generous funds available under the project for attending conferences and conducting research visits.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 October 2023 in the first instance.
