Assistant Professorship in AI & Machine Learning in Disease
Department of Pathology
The Department of Pathology and the Department of Genetics are seeking to appoint a jointly held full-time Assistant Professor in Artificial Intelligence for the Genomics of Genetic and Infectious Diseases.
We are searching for an outstanding research scientist with a passion for teaching and a collegiate outlook, to join our thriving and welcoming academic community in the School of Biological Sciences.
Our Departments offer forward looking research and teaching environments with considerable strengths in driving research into genetic models as well as infectious and genetic diseases of medical importance. The Department of Pathology consists of about 40 groups https://www.path.cam.ac.uk/research and the Department of Genetics about 25 research groups https://www.gen.cam.ac.uk/.
Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming both biological research and the world at large. Your research will explore the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning to uncover underlying biological principles in the disease process, arising from genetic causes and/or from infectious agents. This may include, but is not limited to, researching questions surrounding the evolution or adaptation of infectious or genetic diseases to treatments, the discovery or exploitation of knowledge of pathological mechanisms to create novel diagnostics, therapeutics, or to advance personalised medicine. Given the cross-cutting and rapid advancement of this technology, we expect that the post holder will better enable the School of Biological Sciences to stay at the forefront of AI and ML-driven innovations applied across many biological research areas, establish multiple collaborations and act as a focal point for AI/ML expertise within the School of Biological Sciences and the wider Cambridge community.
