Research Assistant to 'The In-Depth EU AI Act Toolkit' Project (Part Time, Fixed Term)

Closing date:
Sunday, 19 March 2023

Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence

This is an exciting opportunity for you to apply your technical skills and knowledge to advise and help design an online assessment tool for a European AI service provider that enables AI companies to build fair, safe, and equitable AI products. The role is flexible and part-time (0.25 FTE, equivalent to 9.25 hours per week).

The project:

The project, funded by Ammagamma, an Italian AI service provider, and led by Dr Eleanor Drage, is a cutting-edge collaboration between industry and academia. The project's primary goal is to create a tool that helps AI companies create products that conform to the EU AI act. It is oriented primarily towards Project Managers on AI projects and other roles that take a global view. Ammagamma will be creating the tool, and CFI helping them interpret the EU AI act and supplying the conceptual framework for the tool. The project is committed to an in-depth response to regulation that goes beyond mere compliance by working towards a pro-justice and sustainable future with AI.

The role:

Your role will be to help the CFI team translate their conceptual, philosophical and political ideas in relation to the EU AI act into a framework that can be acted on by AI Project Managers and other technical positions. You will be working closely with philosophers and critical theorists, suggesting ways to implement their approaches into an online tool usable for computer scientists. You will bring software design or programming expertise and experience working on or researching AI policy or regulation to this research project. You will be able to communicate effectively with colleagues from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, including Ammagamma's Research Scientists and CFI's philosophers.
