Research Assistant in Digital Twins for Machine Learning based Autonomous Navigation
Department of Computer Science and Technology, West Cambridge
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 4 months in the first instance.
Applications are invited for a part-time Research Assistant to join the Prorok Lab in the Department of Computer Science and Technology, at the University of Cambridge, UK. The position is available at 20 hours per week and on a four month contract. Ideally this should start as soon as possible.
The Prorok Lab has a variety of robotic platforms (aerial and ground), and boasts expertise in controlling and deploying them in practice, as well as in designing coordination strategies for them. A high degree of self-motivation, research-oriented thinking, and a drive for getting real robotic systems up and running are all essential traits in members of this lab.
The Research Assistant will work together with a team of PhD students and research collaborators on the evaluation and suitability of Digital Twinning technology for industrial autonomous navigation applications. Together with the project team, the Research Assistant will perform field research to identify the technical specifications of viable products and a technology development roadmap.
This project is part of an Impact Accelerator fund for the commercialization (spin-out) of the laboratory's research inventions. The project, "Planning with a Hundred Eyes", envisions visual sensor-based navigation for challenging work environments.
