Research Associate - Molecular Helminth Diagnostics

Closing date:
Sunday, 13 November 2022

Department of Veterinary Medicine

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position to start from 1 January 2023 or as soon as possible after this date in molecular diagnostics of helminth infections. This project is funded by an Isaac Newton Trust grant in partnership with the Natural History Museum (London) and aims to apply metagenomics and metabarcoding tools to the diagnosis of infections by soil-transmitted helminths (STHs).

The main focus of the research will be to analyse metagenomics, metabarcoding and genome skimming datasets to investigate the genetic make-up of some of the most common STHs circulating in endemic areas of the world, in order to inform current strategies of parasite detection and develop new and improved molecular diagnostic tools.
