Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute

The VISIONLAB, led by Dr Sarah Bohndiek, uses next-generation imaging sciences to advance our understanding of tumour evolution. We apply the latest spectral imaging hardware, together with biophysical models and machine learning methods, to studies of cancer in both mouse models and patients.

Applications are invited for a Senior Scientific Associate to join the VISIONLab, which is co-located in the Department of Physics and the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute at the University of Cambridge. We are looking for a highly motivated, creative and self-driven scientist who is an expert in advanced optical image data analytics to accelerate the research of our laboratory, ideally someone passionate about supporting open-source software.

The successful applicant will have excellent data science knowledge, including open source and commercial image data analysis tools and should have experience in creating their own toolboxes. The post holder will primarily provide support for creating and streamlining analysis pipelines for a range of multispectral imaging data sets acquired by the laboratory, including data generated from hyperspectral reflectance imaging, Raman spectroscopy and photoacoustic imaging. The post holder will also be expected to curate previously acquired data sets in support of the open-science mindset of the VISIONLab. They will also have the opportunity to lead on their own image analysis focused research project.

The successful applicant will be enthusiastic about innovative optical imaging. Holding a degree in mathematics, computer science, engineering or related discipline, they should ideally have experience with, and strong proficiency in, programming with Python, MATLAB, and Java. Experience in statistical analysis or machine learning for hyperspectral data analysis is essential. Experience in programming hardware control interfaces and data visualisation would also be advantageous. A PhD is desirable, but candidates with similar qualifications or experience will be considered.
